Hurricane Beryl impacts Caribbean Cement 3Q profit

Caribbean Cement Co reported an 11.2 per cent YoY drop in sales to JMD6.2bn (US$39.2m) as Hurricane Beryl hit the company’s sales in the July-September 2024 period. Operating profit contracted by 75.7 per cent YoY to JMD600m in the 3Q24 from JMD5.8bn in the year-ago period. Jamaica’s cement shortage has ended. According to the minister for Investment and Commerce in Jamaica, Senator Aubyn Hill, the Caribbean Cement Co Ltd (CCCL) has assured him that adequate supplies of cement are now available to consumers. Caribbean Cement uses counterfeit cigarettes as RDF

Caribbean Cement Co Ltd has destroyed an estimated JMD400m (US$2.57m) worth of counterfeit cigarettes in its cement kiln, in collaboration with the Jamaica Constabulary Force. CEMEX plans to expand the production capacity at its subsidiary in Jamaica, Caribbean Cement Co Ltd (CCCL). Caribbean Cement to burn waste tyres

The Caribbean Cement Company Ltd (CCCL) had signed an agreement for CCCL to use tyres from the Riverton City landfill in Kingston, to help fire its kilns for the manufacture of Portland cement. There are more than 2m tyres at Riverton to dispose of. There are also more at other landfills across the island. The project will reduce Caribbean Cement’s carbon emissions.

Caribbean Cement triples 1H profit

Caribbean Cement’s profit for the first half of 2021 has tripled to JMD3bn (US$19.3m) from JMD1bn in the 1H20, on the back of stronger domestic demand. The company’s revenues increased 32 per cent YoY to JMD12.3bn. The increase in revenues and the improved efficiency in terms of operating cost control have been key in achieving the 1H21 results.

Jamaica-based Caribbean Cement reported a modest two per cent YoY improvement in revenue to JMD4.54bn (US$33.49m) for the first quarter of 2020. Jamaica's Caribbean Cement Co Ltd aims to restart exports next year following the completion of its expansion, according to the Jamaica Gleaner.
